Trends from the Nest

2020 Interior Design Trends Highlight the Revival of Cane & Rattan.

Natural and woven materials get a complete overhaul resulting in a contemporary aesthetic that works with many interior decors such as modern, transitional, eclectic and, of course, coastal – just to name a few.  Once relegated to porches and patios this trend is appearing in several offerings ranging from high-end furniture lines to mass merchants, such as Target. Along with another 2020 interior design trend “sustainable materials”, natural fibers such as cane, rattan, and seagrass are showing up in furniture, cabinets, pendant lighting, wall art and more.  There are many ways to integrate them into your home. Here are a few inspirations:

Hold Everything!

Plush toys…tennis balls…frisbees…rubber Kongs.  In my home, dog toys of all varieties are very often strewn around the house.  For this reason, I am obsessed with decorative containers – fabric, woven, wire – you name it…I have one. Plain and simple, that is how I keep the dog toy collection at bay. Decorative containers can range in price from $10 to $100 depending on what they are made from. Typically, the more natural the material, the more expensive they are.  And if you dog is a chewer, I advise that you don’t buy the expensive basket made from seagrass…Target is the way to go.  Here are few container options that work well in most décors:

No Worry Throw Pillows

A couple weeks back I mentioned that my dogs are “free range”, meaning they have the run of the house.  All that said, they are better described as “free range” princesses.  While they lie on the couch, they like to perch their pretty little heads on my throw pillows.  Well…sometimes a good nap may cause a little drool stain or a damp head from swimming in the pool could leave a water mark.  Many an expensive throw pillow have gone by the wayside due to various stains.  Then I discovered throw pillows from Target.  Not only do they have a varied and super cute selection, but in many cases I have thrown the entire pillow in the washer and dryer and they come out looking somewhat brand new.  Either way, at Target prices, I can afford to get rid of them and buy something new.  As you can see below, Gracie is just rousing from her nap on her leaf print pillow from Target.
