Pantone Color of the Year 2020 – Classic Blue

Every year The Pantone Institute determines the color of the year “through thoughtful consideration and trend analysis.”  The color of the year influences “product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.”

The Institute describes “Classic Blue” as follows:

“Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

I am a huge fan of blue. I find almost every shade can be easily applied to interior design. This specific color, for me, presents some challenges.  Less early evening sky and more New York Giants, I feel this color is almost too simplistic.  With that in mind, I would integrate this color in smaller measures such as home accessories, prints, and maybe even wallpaper in small areas.  I would avoid larger furniture and interior paint as I don’t think it has staying power and you might quickly tire of it.  Here are some ideas on how you can easily integrate the color of the year into your home.
